Study on Potential Causes of Defects Following Heat and Thermochemical (Carburising) Treatments of Linear Bearings

Author(s):
Maria STOICANESCU, Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania

Abstract:
Guide rings and rolling bodies are mainly made of alloy steel with a high chromium content, heat treated, as well as of carburising steel. The efforts to improve the standard of quality of bearing steels are determined by the interest of continuously increasing the adhesion of constructive types. These steels are recommended for large bearings which operate under shock and vibration conditions. Thermochemical treatments are followed by quenching and tempering heat treatments. However, undesirable defects occur sometimes on the surface of the carburised layer and solutions are constantly being sought to identify the causes thereof.
